It was mid-week of 1995 Massachusettes bow season(November). My typical setup. Pine tree or large hemlock. I believe these trees help to cover your scent. Especially if you rub hemlock needles and branches. They stink! It was about 8am. I had been sitting for just over 2 hours. I heard something in the distance so I got myself up and ready. This wasnt the first deer I had approach me from a stand but I was shaking terribly nonetheless. I have just started to get that under control. He started coming in straight at me and then he stopped and started heading away out of range. I didnt have a call or anything so I watched in horror! Then he stopped again about 70 yards away and started comming in on an angle. I thought I was going to fall out of my stand. He came in to about 35 yards and gave me a beautiful broadside shot. I took it and hit him in the spine. Being a rookie I wasnt holding my bow very well and it went flying out of my hands! It landed with a thud. I made a decent shot but almost wrecked my bow. He dropped but was fully awake. He was paralyzed from the front quarter down. Sadly he tried to drag himself away. I got down from my treestand quickly and put an arrow through his heart. My first deer ever!
