Some Bird pictures!

My first gobbler! This bird almost gave us the slip!

...so my brother in law and I finally locate a gobbler on one of our morning excursions. We get together and plan our attack to lure in this bird. We move in as far as we think we should and we both get set up and star talkin' turkey. There were three birds to start. I saw two toms and one hen. They were very talkative and they answered all of our chatter. Something wasnt right for them though and before we knew it we were down to one bird. He was still answering but moving away towards a field. My buddy circled around and we inched our way towards the field. We never saw this bird flee but I knew I saw his head bobbing at the edge of the field. Where did he go? After 2 hours of calling and waiting we decided we were had by the old tom and we took the field by storm! Nothing..no turkeys in sight. This bird had literally disappeared! I noticed where something had moved through the field because of all the dew on the tall grass. So we poked around. We kept looking over to each other putting our arms up in the air. I decided to retrack my steps into the field and try to follow the tracks left in the grass. I got halfway back to the edge of the field when I saw something black in the grass about 8-10 yard ahead of me. I stopped and looked carefully. I couldnt believe my eyes! There he was laying in front of me! He was down as flat as he could be with his head laid out flat, absolutely motionless! My buddy noticed me looking at something and there was a moment of silence. I brought my Remington 870 magnum up and put the bead on the birds head. He just started to lift himself when I fired. My first turkey ever! I always hoped to call one in like your supposed to but this was an interesting turn of events. So maybe half of those birds you think are gone are laying quietly right next to you!!!

A tom strutting his stuff!!
